CBSE Maths Syllabus 2026–27 for Classes 6, 7, 8 & 9: Complete Chapter List with New NCERT Books
CBSE Maths Syllabus 2026–27 — The Big Picture
For the 2026–27 academic year, CBSE schools follow a completely new set of NCERT Mathematics textbooks from Class 6 to Class 9. These books were written under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023, which in turn flows from the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Classes 6, 7 and 8 now use Ganita Prakash, while Class 9 uses the brand-new Ganita Manjari. The older textbooks titled simply "Mathematics" have been replaced in these classes, so students, parents and teachers must make sure they are working from the correct book.
In this post, we have put together the complete chapter list for all four classes in one place, along with a short note on how each book is organised. Bookmark this page — it is the quickest way to check which chapters your child needs to study this year.
Class 6 Maths — Ganita Prakash (10 Chapters)
Class 6 was the first class to receive the new NCERT Maths book. Ganita Prakash for Grade 6 is a single volume with ten chapters. It begins with patterns rather than large numbers, introduces prime numbers through games and puzzles, and ends with "The Other Side of Zero", which is the new book's introduction to negative numbers and integers.
| Ch. | Chapter Name |
|---|---|
| 1 | Patterns in Mathematics |
| 2 | Lines and Angles |
| 3 | Number Play |
| 4 | Data Handling and Presentation |
| 5 | Prime Time |
| 6 | Perimeter and Area |
| 7 | Fractions |
| 8 | Playing with Constructions |
| 9 | Symmetry |
| 10 | The Other Side of Zero |
Class 7 Maths — Ganita Prakash Part 1 and Part 2 (15 Chapters)
Class 7 Maths is split into two volumes. Part 1 has eight chapters and is usually completed in the first half of the academic year. Part 2 restarts its chapter numbering from 1 and has seven chapters, taking the total to fifteen. Decimals appear twice — first in "A Peek Beyond the Point" and again in "Another Peek Beyond the Point" — which shows how the new books revisit ideas at a deeper level instead of finishing a topic in one go.
| Ch. | Chapter Name |
|---|---|
| 1 | Large Numbers Around Us |
| 2 | Arithmetic Expressions |
| 3 | A Peek Beyond the Point |
| 4 | Expressions using Letter-Numbers |
| 5 | Parallel and Intersecting Lines |
| 6 | Number Play |
| 7 | A Tale of Three Intersecting Lines |

| 6 | Constructions and Tilings |
| 7 | Finding the Unknown |
Class 8 Maths — Ganita Prakash Part 1 and Part 2 (14 Chapters)
Class 8 also has two volumes of seven chapters each. Familiar topics such as squares, cubes, exponents and quadrilaterals are present, but they appear under new, more descriptive chapter names. Proportional reasoning is spread across both parts, and Part 2 introduces the Baudhayana-Pythagoras Theorem, giving due credit to the ancient Indian mathematician Baudhayana alongside Pythagoras.
| Ch. | Chapter Name |
|---|---|
| 1 | A Square and a Cube |
| 2 | Power Play |
| 3 | A Story of Numbers |
| 4 | Quadrilaterals |

| 5 | Tales by Dots and Lines |
| 6 | Algebra Play |
| 7 | Area |
Class 9 Maths — Ganita Manjari
Class 9 has moved to Ganita Manjari, which is a major change from the old 12-chapter Class 9 book. Part 1 contains eight chapters, starting with coordinates and moving through linear polynomials, number systems, algebraic identities, circles, perimeter and area, probability and sequences. Part 2 continues the chapter numbering from 9 and covers logic, data, algorithms, quadrilaterals, linear equations in two variables, and surface area and volume.
| Ch. | Chapter Name |
|---|---|
| 1 | Orienting Yourself: The Use of Coordinates |
| 2 | Introduction to Linear Polynomials |
| 3 | The World of Numbers |
| 4 | Exploring Algebraic Identities |

How to Use This Chapter List
Use this list to plan the year in advance. Students can tick off chapters as they finish them in class, parents can match homework to the correct chapter, and teachers can map the chapters onto term-wise exams. Always confirm with your school which chapters fall into each term, since schools divide the syllabus between periodic tests, half-yearly and annual examinations in their own way.
Because the new books are activity-based and have many "Figure it Out" questions inside every chapter, students often need a clear reference for the correct method. Working through every question with a reliable step-by-step solution guide helps students check their reasoning — not just the final answer.
