New NCERT Maths Books 2026: Class 6, 7, 8 (Ganita Prakash) and Class 9 (Ganita Manjari) Chapter-wise Guide
A Chapter-wise Walkthrough of the New Books
The new NCERT Maths books use creative chapter titles, which is wonderful for curiosity but confusing when a student or parent wants to know what a chapter actually covers. "Prime Time", "Geometric Twins" or "Fractions in Disguise" do not immediately tell you the topic. This guide walks through each class and explains, in simple terms, what the main chapters are about, so you can connect the new titles to familiar mathematical topics.
Class 6 — Ganita Prakash
"Patterns in Mathematics" opens the book by looking at number and shape patterns. "Lines and Angles" covers points, lines, rays and measuring angles. "Number Play" builds number sense through puzzles. "Data Handling and Presentation" covers collecting data and drawing pictographs and bar graphs. "Prime Time" is about factors, multiples and prime numbers. "Perimeter and Area", "Fractions" and "Symmetry" are what they say. "Playing with Constructions" introduces constructions using a compass and ruler, and "The Other Side of Zero" introduces negative numbers and integers.
| Ch. | Chapter Name |
|---|---|
| 1 | Patterns in Mathematics |
| 2 | Lines and Angles |
| 3 | Number Play |
| 4 | Data Handling and Presentation |

Class 7 — Ganita Prakash Part 1 and Part 2
In Part 1, "Large Numbers Around Us" deals with reading and estimating big numbers, "Arithmetic Expressions" covers order of operations and simplifying expressions, and "A Peek Beyond the Point" introduces decimals. "Expressions using Letter-Numbers" is the start of algebra, where letters stand for numbers. "Parallel and Intersecting Lines" covers angle relationships, "A Tale of Three Intersecting Lines" is about triangles, and "Working with Fractions" covers fraction operations.
In Part 2, "Geometric Twins" is the chapter on congruence, "Operations with Integers" extends integer arithmetic, "Another Peek Beyond the Point" deepens decimal work, "Constructions and Tilings" combines geometric construction with tiling patterns, and "Finding the Unknown" is about solving simple equations.

"We Distribute, Yet Things Multiply" deals with multiplying algebraic expressions and the identities that come from the distributive property. "Proportional Reasoning" appears in both parts and covers ratio and proportion in depth.
In Part 2, "Fractions in Disguise" is where percentages are treated, "The Baudhayana-Pythagoras Theorem" covers right-angled triangles, "Algebra Play" uses algebra to explain number tricks and patterns, and "Area" extends mensuration to more shapes.

Tips for Studying from the New Books
Read the chapter text carefully — in the new books, much of the teaching happens inside the explanations and the activities, not only in the worked examples. Attempt every Figure it Out question before looking at a solution. Keep a notebook of the "key ideas" summarised at the end of each chapter. And when you check your answers, do not stop at whether the final number matches — compare your method and reasoning step by step.
